After the application of high cadmium rates hydrolytic acidity tended to increase while pH KCl, total exchange bases, total exchange capacity and degree of base saturation of soil decreased. Soil contamination with cadmium produced greater effect on the balance of microbiological than physicochemical soil properties. In most of objects cadmium had negative effect on the number of ammonifying, nitrogen immobilizing and cellulolytic bacteria in soil. Only in the soil without magnesium fertilization stimulated the growth of nitrogen immobilizing bacteria
