Influence of organic fertilization and liming on the contents of cadmium and lead in soil and in brittle lettuce, Samba variety, grown in the third year after fertilization

The sequential influence of organic fertilization and liming extends over a number of years. The studies concerned the influence of dressing with manure, rye straw and green manure in the forms (winter rye or winter vetch) as well as the influence of soil liming in the third year after the dressing was applied. The analysis included the effect of above forms of fertilization on the contents of cadmium and lead in soil in accessible forms as well as the content of cadmium and leaf in lettuce grown in the third year after fertilization. E-30 route going in direct vicinity to the field under examination and bearing traffic of high volume is the source of pollution of a soil by the above mentioned heavy metals. In the third year after organic fertilization, cadmium and lead contents in lettuce and available forms of cadmium in soil decreased if 60 t/ha of farmyard manure or 4 t/ha of straw had been applied. Soil and lettuces in the rye straw (4 t/ha) or winter rye treatments were characterized by the lowest contents of lead. In the third year after liming it was found that the residual effects of liming were to decrease soil cadmium and lead (plant-available forms) as well as to decrease the contents of cadmium and lead in lettuce
