Epidemiological characteristics of bovine influenza in France from a sample survey of herds at a national level
2003
Gay, Emilie | Barnouin, Jacques
The aim of the study was to describe epidemiological characteristics of bovine influenza in France, via data collected from a retrospective cohort of French cattle herds on November 2001. Prevalence, morbidity, mortality and lethality rates of influenza clinical cases were calculated. Characteristics of diseased and healthy herds, and space-time profile of the disease were described. Prevalence of influenza was 9.76%, morbidity rate was 2.72% and mortality rate 0.09%. Among the diseased farms, morbidity rate was 16.64%, mortality rate 0.53% and lethality rate 3.17%. The cases occurred mainly during cold months. The whole territory was affected, with a higher number of cases in the northwest region, the main bovine production area in France.
