In Latvia, the year 2021 was peculiar — with a cool and very rainy spring, with an extraordinary heat in June and July, and early autumn and rainy weather in August. Also this year, “Agrihorts” scientists continued the apple growers provide with forecasts of the distribution of harmful organisms, how also surveyed 17 farms where meteorological stations are currently installed in the plantations to see how farmers are doing with crop protection and which pests are causing the most damage problems. The chart shows the proportion of farms where the prevalence of damage by the harmful organism (apple borer, apple sawfly, rowan moth, aphids, cork spot, common fruit rot and apple scab) exceeded 5% of for evaluated apples, % (data on 16 farms). The article also presents recommendations for the effectiveness of the use of fungicides in combating harmful organisms, as well as indirect plant protection measures and use of phytosanitary techniques.
