croate. Biljne vrste koje se javljaju na površinama a nisu cilj uzgoja smatramo neželjenim vrstama - korovima. Te vrste ometaju rast, razvoj i plodonošenje biljnih vrsta koje su cilj uzgoja te ih je stoga poželjno eliminirati odnosno spriječiti im daljnji razvoj. Osim mehaničkih, fizikalnih i bioloških metoda, njihovu prisutnost možemo spriječiti i primjenom kemijskih metoda tj. primjenom herbicida odnosno herbistatika. Ta sredstva eliminiraju neželjene biljne vrste tako što u određenim stadijima inhibiraju (ometaju) biokemijske procese neophodne za njihov rast i razvoj bez negativnog utjecaja na vrstu koja je cilj uzgoja. Kako i na koji način to ostvaruju nazivamo mehanizmom djelovanja.

anglais. Plant species which appear on areas without being the goal of cultivation, are considered to be unwanted species, i.e. weed. Those species interfere with growth, development and fruit-bearing of plant species which are the goal of cultivation, therefore it is recommendable to eliminate them, that is, prevent their further development. Except for mechanical, physical and biological methods, their presence can also be prevented by chemical methods, that is, by using herbicides. Such means eliminate unwanted plant species in certain phases by inhibiting (interfering with) the biochemical processes necessary for their growth and development, without having any negative impact on the species which is the goal of cultivation. The way they do that is called modes of action.
