Effects of Inulin Addition on Gas Production and Digestible Organic Matter at Different Levels of Corn Silage

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects on rumen fermentation of addition of inulin to corn silage with in vitro gas production methods. Study design for in vitro gas production system; corn silage (CS), respectively, the control group, 0% and the experimental group 0.4% and 0.8% at the level of inulin to each jar was formed so as to be added. Each group was planned to be four replications. In vitro gas production was recorded at 3, 6, 12, 24, 48,72, 84 and 96 h of incubation. In vitro cumulative gas production, digestible organic matter level (DOM, %) and metabolizable energy values (MEGP) for corn silage of the inulin addition in 0.4% and 0.8% levels at the end of the incubation period were statistically significant in comparison with control groups (P<0.05). In conclusion, our result showed that inulin addition at different levels were a significant impact on the amount of gas production, digestible organic matter level and metabolizable energy value. However, further studies are required to investigate the effects of inulin constituents on in vivo.
