This example introduces multiple regression, which allows researchers to evaluate whether a continuous dependent variable is a linear function of two or more independent variables. The multiple regression model is most commonly estimated via ordinary least squares (OLS), and is sometimes called OLS regression. This example analyses whether the size of a Russian family's home and that family's income predicts the value of their home. Understanding the factors that predict housing values and how additional income translates into housing values is important for making policy decisions about housing.
