Abstract: Educational materials that address a variety of needs related to diabetes education are identified and briefly described in this review of clinical nutrition resources from the Nutrition Education Center of the Pennsylvania State University. The review is designed to help diabetes educators and clinicians in different counseling settings maximize their teaching and counseling effectiveness. Materials are divided into three categories: print resources, audiovisual resources, and other related resources (i.e. organizations, resource guides, food composition resources). A "synopis" section summarizes content for each item. An evaluation of each resource uses the following standard educational criteria: accuracy, balance (freedom from bias), technical quality (i.e. format, clarity, color, graphics [illustrations, medium use), and appropriateness for target audience (content and contemporary counseling philosophy). Additional evaluative comments are categorized as major strengths, potential limitations, potential sources of confusion, and other. For print and audiovisual materials, information on source, cost, target age level, and client level (based on understanding of the exchange system) is also included. An evaluation form is provided for user comments and suggestions for additional resources. (aje).
