Abstract: The compound 5-hydroxy-4-methyl-3-heptanone (sitophilure) has been identified as an aggregation pheromone for both males and females of grain weevils belonging to the genus sitophilus. The compound and compositions containing the same are useful tools for the monitoring and control of these major agricultural pests of stored grain.
