Extract: This study analyses the significance of economic development and rising incomes in West Africa on the region's oilseed economy. The study incorporates an historical background of the West African oilseed trade and information on the dietary role of these commodities in the region into an analysis of future demand. Three countries, Nigeria, Cameroon and the Ivory Coast, serve as case studies because of their positions as leaders in the region in the rate of growth of GNP and in its absolute per capita level.
