Abstract: This handbook for vector control personnel and public health pesticide applicators is organized to cover vector pest control steps in the order they are performed. These steps are: accurate identification of pests of public health significance and knowledge of their biology, evaluation of public health problems, control stragetegy selection (including both non-chemical and chemical control methods), and the implementation of the control measures. In depth discussions of toxicology and the proper use of pesticides aim to increase the applicator's understanding of pesticides and improve pesticide safety and effectiveness. Appendices include summarized data on common vector control pesticides (indicating trade, chemical name, physical properties, toxicity, formulations and other names); measurements and equivalents tables; a glossary; and additional reading. Contains an index, sample questions with answers, illustrations of pests, pest life cycles, and pictorial keys.
