1975
Rivlin, Richard S.
Abstract: Information on the chemistry, physiology, and medical importance of the vitamin riboflavin is presented. Recent advances in understanding the metabolic role of riboflavin, the metabolic and teratogenic effects of riboflavin deficiency, and regulation of riboflavin metabolism are discussed. Other topics cover the physical and chemical properties of flavins; flavin-protein binding; riboflavin biosynthesis; analytical methods for the measurement of riboflavin, its derivatives, and flavin coenzymes; biological activities of riboflavin analogs; riboflavin absorption and excretion; and hormonal regulators of riboflavin metabolism. The relationship of riboflavin to cancer, and factors affecting the nutritional intake of riboflavin from food sources are also examined.
