The Job is to organize and agitate, and educate, and organize again | Report on the second National WIC Symposium
1981
Abstract: Progress made during the 1.5 years between the first (1977) and second (1979) vs national symposium on the Commodity Supplemental Food Program and the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is summarized. The text includes: excerpts from 8 symposium speeches; evaluation reports of the activities of the WIC program in 5 communities throughout the US; a summary of workshop discussions and recommendations; and a summary of separate resolutions developed by 39 states, territories, and the District of Columbia. The symposium concluded that these programs should be expanded to serve all eligible women and children, that a federal commitment is needed to assure adequate employment and income support, and that advocates, program participants, and administrators must work together to attain these goals.
