The "heavy" b(3) form of the AMY-1 isoenzyme is present in all individuals of the domesticated cow, zebu, banteng, yak, and hybrids of these species. This isoenzyme form is absent from the American and European bison. However, this isoenzyme form was present in some hybrid individuals obtained by mating American with European bison. Some individuals obtained by mating the American bison with the domestic cow lacked the b(3) form.
