A technical review focuses on the basic processes involved in the synthesis and secretion of protein, fat, and lactose in human breast milk. Attention also is given to dietary influences affecting the levels of these nutrients in human milk. Practical considerations concerning the volume and quality of human milk for the nursing infant are included.(wz)
