Multi-Botanical garden: establishment of Botanical garden in Surgut

Creation of the northern-most botanical garden in Western Siberia was started in 2000. The architectural, territorial, botanical, structural and organizational, social aspects of perception and functioning of the Surgut Botanical garden are discussed in the article. The history of formation and the current state of the Botanical garden, problems of interaction with local government are presented. The main directions of strategic development of the project of the Botanical garden are given: a) Regional center of preservation of genetic resources of plants in culture in the rank of protected area; b) Intellectual and technological base of new standards of rational environmental management; c) All-season educational and scientific center of the Surgut State University; d) Special public city space – systemically organized public garden, natural museum for ecological and esthetic education, tourism and cultural development.
