Insulin-dependent diabetes
1987
A brief report discusses the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Nutrition for treating insulin-dependent diabetes with a high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet. It is suggested that this diet will improve diabetic control and reduce the risk of vascular complications. While the Committee recognized the role of fiber as part of the carbohydrate content of the diet, it refrained from making recommendations concerning fiber. The recommended diet has a composition of 50-60% carbohydrate, 15-20% protein, and 20-25% fat.
