A Review of the Literature and a Checklist of the Spanish Dermestidae (Coleoptera)

An updated checklist of the Dermestidae for mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands is produced. A total of 102 species was found from existing lists and world catalogues, but no supporting scientific literature could be found for 26 of these species. Consequently, the proposal here is that the checklist of Dermestidae for Spain should number 76. A consideration of the types of species that should constitute a national checklist and how species appear on a checklist without scientific support is made.
