Impact of employment generation programmes in terms of providing employment to the beneficiaries

Central/state governments run a number of rural development progarmmes with a focus on self-employment for youth. These programmes have met with varied levels of success depending on type of progrmme and region like, Sumdari and Kumalambal (1991) reported that assistance under TRYSEM, improved employment situation drastically and recommended that this progarmme certainly be an effective instrument for women's empowerment through generation of income and employment. Likewise Singh, (1990) “Found that 56.32 per-cent beneficiaries reported that their income had raised on account of the scheme and it was deduced that there is significant difference regarding rise in income and rating about the programme by the respondents. Therefore impact assessment is imperative for such programmes for their continuity or midterm corrections so that they become more effective. Accordingly the present investigation was carried out in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan to evaluate the impact of some popular rural development Programme of Rajasthan Government.
