2012
Paprstein, F. | Sedlak, J.
Twenty six plum cultivars were evaluated in a germplasm plantation of Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology Holovousy Ltd. The collection was planted at a spacing of 6×5 m on myrobalan rootstock. The results of three-year evaluation of eight important fruit characters are presented. Characters evaluated included: time of ripening, weight of fruit, fruit colour, firmness, taste, separability of stone from flesh, overall quality and incidence of PPV symptoms on fruit. Fruits of 'Topgigant Plus', 'Tophit', ‘President’ and 'Topend Plus' weighed, on average, more than 50 g. In contrast, the lowest average weight of fruits (lower than 20 g) had cultivar 'Hauszwetsche'. 'Hauszwetsche' and 'Tuleu Gras' ranked the highest in taste. In contrast, cultivar 'Ialomita' was at the limits of acceptability for consumer. From the point of view of overall fruit quality cultivars 'Tuleu Gras' and 'Hauszwetsche' received the highest ranking. Cultivars 'Dambovita' and 'Bucurie' had the flesh, which adhered the most closely to the stone. The fruits of cultivar 'Bucurie' and 'Hauszwetsche' were the most seriously affected by PPV. 64% fruits of 'Bucurie' and 62% fruits of 'Hauszwetsche' developed typical PPV symptoms.
