Nitrogen, protein levels and amino acid composition in developing malformed and healthy panicles and shoots of mango
1989
Singh, Z. | Dhillon, B.S.
Healthy and malformed panicles and shoots were analysed for total nitrogen, protein content and amino acid at (I) fully swollened buds, (II) but inception, (III) full grown panicles prior to full bloom and (IV) full grown panicles at full bloom. Malformed buds at stage (I & II) had higher nitrogen, protein content and total amino acids than healthy ones, whereas the trend was reverse in stages III and IV. Nitrogen and protein content was higher in shoots bearing healthy panicles than those bearing malformed panicles in stages I and II, whereas nitrogen and protein content was high in shoots bearing malformed panicles in stages III and IV than healthy ones. The shoots bearing malformed panicles had shown high total amino acid content during stages I and III and reverse in II and IV stages. Malformed panicles had lower amount of basic amino acids as compared to healthy ones during all the stages of development and reverse was the case in acidic amino acid content. The amount of neutral and aromatic amino acids was higher in the malformed panicles during stages I and II than the healthy ones. It was reverse in stages III and IV. The shoots bearing healthy panicles had higher basic amino acids in stages I and II than healthy ones. The neutral amnio acid content was higher in stages I and III in shoots bearing malformed panicles than healthy ones. The amount of acidic amino acids was higher in stages I and III in shoots bearing malformed panicles than those bearing healthy panicles and it was reverse in stages II and IV. Aromatic amino acids was higher in shoot bearing malformed panicles during stages II and III than healthy ones. The ammonia content of shoots bearing malformed panicles in stages III and IV was higher than healthy ones.
