Long range planning is a tool for organizing the present on the basis of a projection of the desired future. Uses and advantages of such planning are listed, and a systematic method for long range planning within organizations is detailed. Five components of a model are explained: situation analysis, mission, area of emphasis, five year strategy, and short term goal setting. A sample five year strategy and goal settiang model are shown. The process is specifically designed for reasonably sized and smaller organizations.
