Supermarket prices and price differences
1990
Kaufman, P.
Supermarkets represent only about 10 percent of the number of retail food stores, but they account for 70 percent of all sales. Because of this large volume, supermarkets, rather than any other food stores, have the greatest economic impact on the retail food industry. The economic performance of food stores is measured by comparing prices and profits. Price comparisons are used to gauge the competitiveness and efficiency of an industry or market-indicators of economic performance.
