Inheritance of Resistance in Corn to Leaf Feeding of the European Corn Borer

SynopsisLeaf feeding ratings of FD and backcross progenies of a susceptible ✕ resistant cross, M14 ✕ MS1, indicated segregation of genes for borer resistance at 3 or more loci with at least partial phenotypic dominance of susceptibility. In a B14 ✕ N32 cross, 1 or 2 gene pairs for borer leaf feeding resistance were indicated on the basis of individual plant segregations in F₂ and first backcrosses. The F₃ and selfed backcross progeny ratings could not be explained on a single locus basis.
