Farmer participation in agricultural research
1989
Farrington, J.
Farmer participatory research has become an important issue in less developed countries, and especially in poorer, rainfed areas where farmers are seldom powerful enough to make their own views count. These areas are in greatest need of assistance, but their problems are not always amenable to investigation at agricultural research stations. At the same time there is wide scope for productivity gains. This paper describes the characteristics of farmer participatory research and discusses the prospects for placing these approaches on a sustainable institutional footing.
