Myristylation of the membrane form of a Trypanosoma brucei variant surface glycoprotein
1984
Ferguson, M.A.J. | Cross, G.A.M.
Trypanosoma brucei variant surface glycoprotein (VSG) purified following direct solubilization of trypanosomes in boiling detergent solution, this material behaved as amphiphilic membrane form of glycoprotein previously described and contained myristic acid, release of VSG coat from parasite membrane as soluble form of VSG occurred concomitantly with loss of myristic acid from the glycoprotein, results suggest that VSG is attached to parasite membrane via covalently linked myristic acid-containing lipid moiety
