The diet histories and nutrient intakes of anorexia nervosa patients
1979
Chambers, Toni L. | Beumont, P.J.V. | Abraham, Suzanne F.
Eighteen female anorexia nervosa patients were interviewed, using the twenty-four hour Dietary History Interview. The period studied was the initial period of weight loss leading to the anorexia nervosa diagnosis; this period was defined as ending when weight loss ceased or treatment was started. Dieting was precipated by allergy, short illnesses resulting in weight loss, recent weight increase associated with consumption of large amounts of food, emotional problems, and a number of factors which could not be identified. The major nutrient avoided by all subjects was fat; most subjects included high-protein foods. Carbohydrate consumption varied. Most patients were below the Australian RDAs in all nutrients except B-group vitamins.
