Harvesting straws and fodder is a major challenge for farmers, especially breeders. Thanks to the progressive mechanization of agriculture fodder and straw can be packaged in bales from the 1950s. The appearance of plastic bindings from the 1960s allowed a significant densification of the boots, leading to a substantial improvement in conservation, as well as significant productivity gains and storage savings. However, these strings and synthetic nets are not biodegradable, which poses new questions in terms of environmental impact. After a first phase of decreasing the metric weight of the bindings, the question now arises of the collection and integration of recycled plastics in order to guarantee their sustainable use. It is a challenge that professionals in the sector are facing but that involves the mobilization of the entire value chain throughout the product life cycle.
