Summary and ConclusionIt may be said that this report strives to provide direction for certain reorientations of soil science water research that will yield the kinds of data needed by the Soil Science Society of America for making decisions on the proper allocation, use, and development of water resources. In generating the data needed for making water decisions, soil science will likely move beyond traditional confines of soil science and into multidisciplinary studies yielding results with implications far beyond the immediate horizons of agriculture. The current tools, data, and theory that document the content of soil science provide solid foundations for venturing forth into multidisciplinary decision making research for use in intra- as well as inter-industrial water-use decision making. In the venture, soil scientists face a challenging and rewarding future in their service to mankind.
