Potential of grapevine cultivars grown in the Czech republic for grapeseed oil production

The aim of the study represented quantitative and qualitative evaluation of grape seed composition in more or less grown grapevine cultivars in the Czech Republic for grape seed oil production. Thirty different accessions from the Czech national grapevine collection situated in one location were utilized for this purpose. The oil content ranged between 7.6±0.4% (‘Siegerrebe’) and 17.7±0.1% (‘Riesling Weiss’). Characteristics of berries, clusters, potential of grape cultivar production and dynamics of oil accumulation during ripening were also taken into account. Highest potential for grape seed oil production demonstrated ‘Pinot noir’ with 11.3 g of oil per kg of grapes. Concerning fatty acid profile linoleic (69.95-77.19%), oleic (9.97-16.26%), palmitic (4.93-8.02%), stearic (2.91-5.25%) and α-linolenic acid (0.31-0.77%) represented the predominant ones. The highest content of dietary linoleic acid in grape seed oil was determined in ‘Weltliner gruner’. In addition, two tocopherols (α-, γ-) and three tocotrienols (α-, γ-, δ-) were determined in all seed oils, γ-tocotrienol was the most abundant. Seeds from grapevine cultivars grown in the Czech Republic are rich source for production of valuable alternative edible oil.
