Position paper on infant feeding

Basic principles of infant feeding are reviewed. Three major subject areas are covered: breastfeeding and bottle feeding; the age of introduction to solids; and, vitamin, mineral, and liquid supplements. Several advantages of breastfeeding are pointed out. Principles governing introduction of solid foods are listed. Recommendations are made for dietitians, corporations of other professionals, and the government to better inform new mothers regarding infant nutrition.
