Given the importance of sodium restriction for many patients and the potential impact of immediate feedback on patient adherence (2-4), we designed the present study to explore the accuracy of methods suitable for assessing sodium intake in applied settings. Specifically, we assessed the relationship between estimates of sodium intake from food records analyzed by a microcomputer database and the concentration of sodium in overnight urine collections and whether agreement between the two methods would be improved by averaging across multiple days of both food records and urine collections.
