Impact of Harvested Rain Water on Farmer's Field in Saline Tract Area of Western Vidarbha Region

An experiment was carried out to overcome the drought prone situation in drought affected districts of Vidarbha, constructions of number of dug out type ponds (water storage structures) for harvesting of excess rain water on farmers field. Being implemented in lined and unlined type dug out farm ponds and there is a need to utilized the harvested rain water. The one protective irrigation using harvested rain water increases in the dry land productivity of Cotton and Gram crops to 47 to 55 per cent and 43 to 58 per cent respectively. The more number of protective irrigations (two to three) resulted in increasing the productivity of Cotton crop to the tune of 13 to 46 per cent.
