Eugene, Oregon is presently debating the issue of whether to hire a food service management company to run its already successful school lunch program. The food management companies have promised a greater profit by centralizing the present system of on site kitchens and establishing a bulk satellite delivery system or supplying frozen pre plated foods. Opponents to the management companies are concerned about hidden costs, efficiency, and loss of control over food and menu choice.
