The present investigation was under taken with the objectives to estimate heritability and genetic advance in percent of mean for yield and other characters on grain yield. The experiment was conducted during Kharif 2013 at N.D. University of Agriculture and Technology, Narendra Nagar (Kumarganj), Faizabad. The experiment was based on evaluation of a line × tester set of 45 hybrids (F₁s) and their 18 parents under normal and saline soil conditions in randomized block design with three replications. The estimates of sca variance were higher than the corresponding estimates of gca variance for all the traits. The values of average degree of dominance were more than unity (>1) and predictability ratio less than one (< 1) for all the characters revealing over dominance except kernel length, kernel breadth and L: B ratio in both conditions, while panicle length and spikelets fertility in normal condition is less than unit and more than unit in saline condition.
