Management of Chickpea Pod Borer, Helicoverpa armigera Hubner by Using Border Crops

The study was conducted on management of Chickpea Pod Borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) By Using Border crops. Two sprays of insecticides were taken. The number of larvae per five border crop plants was in the range of 0.58 to 1.03 at three days after first spray. At 7 days, number of larvae was 0.47 to 0.92 and data was non-significant at both the days. On 14 days after first spray, Maize recorded minimum 0.22 numbers of larvae per 5 plants. On 3 days after second spray the treatment Sorghum recorded minimum 0.08 numbers of larvae per 5 plants. Seven days after second spray the treatment Maize recorded minimum (0.02) numbers of larvae per 5 plants. On 14 days after second spray the treatment Maize found significantly superior over all treatments and recorded minimum 0.02 numbers of larvae per 5 plants. The observation recorded 3 days after first spray indicated that the, treatment Marigold recorded 22.30 per cent pod damage per 5 plants. Data on yield of chickpea from different border crops revealed that the maximum yield of 1142.82 Kg ha⁻¹ was obtained from the border crop of Maize and it was significantly superior over rest of the border crops. The next best border crop was Sorghum which recoded 1111.54 Kg ha⁻¹ yield of chickpea. The maximum C: B ratio of 1: 10.86 was obtained from Maize as a border crop.
