A dietary study assessed mineral intakes of normal women and men and pregnant or lactating women residing in France consuming 5 different diets that varied in energy content (1500-3500 Kcal/day) and were balanced in protein, lipid, and carbohydrate content. The results indicated that women were at risk for zinc, iron, fluoride, and copper intakes, even when consuming a diet that is balanced for energy requirements, and that the energy content of the diet influences mineral intake. Data on the mineral composition of balanced diets having different energy levels are included.(wz)
