Extract: Research data suggest that nutritional supplementation during gestation can decrease the number of low-birth-weight infants. The prenatal and postnatal nutritional supplementation during infancy appears to show a statistical improvement in behavioral test performance. This improvement is a small one, which raises the question of whether the benefit will lead to behavorial changes in the recipients that will be meaningful in terms of adaptation to their own social systems.(author)
