Urban sprawling is a phenomenon of fast unrestricted growth due to domestic use and industrialization. The urban sprawling may lead to haphazard and unplanned development in urban localities. In this work, high resolution data of Digital globe is used to study urban sprawl detection and analysis. To analyze the urban sprawling in Uran Taluka of Raigad district for Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) area, the satellite data of 0.6 m and 0.5 m resolution captured by QuickBird and World view-2 satellite is experimented. The study area is governed by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust authorities. For object based land use change detection, the unsupervised classification algorithm is used. In this study, it is concluded that, the urban area is decreased by 6.585% from year 2006 to 2014, and overall vegetation and green cover area is decreased by 4.81% from year 2006 to year 2010 & increased by 0.25% from year 2010 to 2014. The results of this research work are also validated by doing accuracy assessment with supervised classification of the same area.
