The study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy of Toxi Bind Dry (TBD) in alleviating the toxic effects of ochratoxin A administered in broiler diet for 6 weeks. In ochratoxicated chicks (1 ppm, OCA group), there was significant reduction in mean weights of liver, bursa and spleen of birds. There was 20 per cent mortality in this group. The gross and microscopic changes in different organs of chicks of this group varied with duration of toxicity. Addition of the toxin binder (in chicks of OCT group) failed to improve the liver, kidney, bursa and spleen weights. The growth depressing effects of ochratoxin were persistant. Mortality was significantly improved. Histopathological observation indicated that addition of TBD powder along with OCA in the diet had considerable ameliorating effects on the microscopic lesions in various organs, as the lesions were comparatively mild and minimal at different intervals of study. However, complete amelioration of toxicosis was not observed.
