This study was conducted in Horticulture Department of Agriculture Faculty of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University. In the present study, beside traditional pistachio propagation, the stimulative effect of shocking by electric current on pistachio (Pistacia vera) seed germination and growth was examined. Two varieties of pistachio, Siirt and Uzun, were shocked using a Corona electric shocking device developed to increase the earliness or yield capacity of cultivated crops by shocking their seeds or their vegetative parts prior to planting. The working principle of this device is based on the intense effect of electrons, ions and ultraviolet rays within its electrical field. Pistachio seeds were planted in the vials (15 cm depth x 10 cm diameter) with three replicates and were then immediately exposed to high voltage electrical current for 30 seconds. The results obtained from indicated that there was stimulative and different effects of shocking by electric current on pistachio varieties. Likewise, abnormal seed germination and growth of leaves and branches were observed following pistachio seeds exposed to high dosage of electrical current (30 kw for 30 seconds) and some plants lost their viability.
