Dietary protein, lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis
1978
Kritchevsky, David
A review of literature regarding the relationship between dietary protein, lipid metabolism and atherosclerosis points to several conclusions. Dietary protein can have a marked effect on cholesterol levels. Animal protein appears to be more cholesteremic, but since most experiments have involved use of the same protein (casein), the effect of other proteins of animal origin must be assessed. The effect of protein can be altered by changing other dietary ingredients or by adding specific amino acids. Tables present data.
