The liquid fraction of manure, used as a nutrient solution, is an important source of nutrients for plants in hydroponics; however, it requires previous conditioning in order to reduce pH and salinity, reflected in high electrical conductivity (EC). The experiment, in its first phase, consisted of testing the use of citric and phosphoric acids to reduce pH of the liquid extract of cattle manure (LECM) with two EC values (1.8 and 3.6 dS m(-1)). In the second phase, nitric and phosphoric acids, and the mixture of both acids were used to reduce pH of LECM. Also, LECM was complemented in its nutrient content with calcium nitrate, potassium sulphate and Fe-EDTA. Results of the first phase show the superiority of phosphoric acid used as acidulant, since tomato plants exhibited a significant difference in height, yield, number of fruits, and chlorophyll content. In the second phase, although there was no difference between acidulants for plant height, number of fruits, and weight per fruit; the best acidulant was the mixture of nitric and phosphoric acids (2:1 ratio), which produced the highest values for yield, number of inflorescences, internodes, and fruit diameter.
