Monitoring of the flora developed in an organic artichoke crop (Cynara scolymus L.)

The flora monitoring in an organic artichoke crop allowed us to locate 58 wild plant species, belonging to 22 botanical families, the majority being of Mediterranean origin. We demonstrated that only 3.48% of the identified plants are multiannual while 96.52% are annual, and that 38.6% of Tunisian weed families are present in this artichoke plot. Hence, we indicated the significant diversity of the weed flora developed in the artichoke plot relative to its organically proceeding. Moreover, we noted that among the many families present at the parcel, the most abundant are the Asteraceae (22.41%), the Fabaceae (17.54%) and the Poaceae (12.28%). Furthermore, the study of the ethology of the collected species showed that 91.37% are therophytes, 6.89% are geophytes and 1.72% are nanophanerophytes. Thus, we concluded that the identified weeds are classified into seven groups depending on their abundance and presence coefficients. Four species of weeds are considered the most dangerous in the artichoke plot seen their dominance and presence coefficients amounted to know: Anagallis arvensis, Emex spinosus, Fumaria densiflora and Papaver hybridum.
