Improved food intake and weight gain in adult patients following electroconvulsive therapy for depression

A study assessed the utility of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), an effective treatment for primary depression, for treating 6 adult patients who had experienced major depression and marked anorexic weight loss. Treatment with ECT resulted in significant increases in daily caloric intake and post-ECT weight gains. The study results are statistically summarized and discussed.(wz)
