Cohabitation and Relative Abundance of Two Species of Wild Oats
1967
Marshall, D. R. | Jain, S. K.
Data on the relative abundance of Avena fatua and A. barbata in a number of mixed populations during the seed, seedling, and adult stages were analyzed in terms of a simple model. The results indicated that natural selection favoring A. fatua through better seedling establishment and A. barbata in terms of higher fecundity primarily determines the extent and pattern of cohabitation. Other ecogenetic factors such as the degree of genetic polymorphism in the two species are briefly discussed.
