Jimsonweed intoxication in adolescents and young adults

A study of 73 jimsonweed exposure cases, resulting in severe hallucinations, reported over a 5-year period revealed that the most common exposure route was via oral ingestion in drug abuse or experimentation at an average age of 17 (11-28 years), and that most of the subjects (81%) received emergency room or hospital admission treatment. Treatment included gastrointestinal decontamination, supportive care, and physostigmine salicylate therapy. (wz)
