This review discusses the role of inorganic phosphate in human nutrition physiology. Topics include distribution of phosphorus in the human body, phosphorus content of some foods, phosphorus absorption and excretion and phosphorus deficiency and requirements. Ten conditions are described in which hypophosphatemia occur. The calcium phosphorus ratio in human nutrition is discussed.
