Clustering technique in minor taxa of mango in West Bengal

The study was undertaken to evaluate 25 less appealing minor taxa of Mangifera indica L. of Gangetic West Bengal in the perspective of mango-lore during 2000 to 2005. The cultivars were observed pertaining to fruit characters and physico-chemical characters of fruits. Principal component analysis was used to compare the performance of these cultivars for different physico-chemical traits. Different clusters were obtained through the application of Ward’s method under Euclidean distance. All the clusters may be considered as genetically divergent groups of minor taxa. These may be considered as the base population for selecting genetically divergent germplasm in the mango breeding program. Considering all factors the most promising minor taxa should be ‘Bombai Siruli’ and ‘Bhaduri’ for promising and remarkable combinations.
