A 12-week prospective, double-blind, controlled study of 17 rheumatoid arthritis patients consuming a diet having a high polyunsaturated/saturated fat ratio indicated that the diet was beneficial in reducing the clinical manifestations of disease in terms of morning stiffness and the number of tender joints. The results are contrasted with those of a control group of 20 such patients receiving a diet having a lower polyunsaturated/saturated fat ratio. Follow-up in the experimental group appeared to reinforce this conclusion. (wz)
